Seriously injured in 2007 after clinching the 2006 MX2 world title for Kawasaki, Christophe resumed his successful career in the USA with two Supercross titles in the Lites class, but he has now decided to return to the World Championship and will join Kawasaki Team CLS for the second part of the 2011 season, including the Motocross of Nations is he is selected by the French Federation. Christophe will be reunited with several people whom he knows well; Jean Jacques Luisetti ? owner of Team CLS and the Floride Moto dealer shop in Marseille ? was one of his first sponsors, while Jeremy Fontaine was his mechanic in 2005 and 2006 and the team’s chief mechanic Yann Lozano accompanied him to discover the US scene. Christophe is already in Europe for testing with Ben Townley?s bikes, and will soon return to the GP scene.
Christophe Pourcel: ?I?m happy to be back with Team CLS, who offered me a nice challenge. I know the team and I?m sure that we will do a great job together. I know the 450 Kawasaki well as I?ve been training on this bike in Florida, and I will be back alongside my former mechanic Jeremy Fontaine who was already working with me in 2006 when I won the World title. I?ve also been working in the past with Yann Lozano, so that makes it even easier to soon be ready to join the MX1 World Championship.?
Steve Guttridge: “It?s such an exciting prospect to have Christophe back in GPs on a Kawasaki, in the MX1 class and with a team that he grew up with and knows so well. Arriving mid season and from the US won?t be easy but knowing CP he will not be coming here to just make up the numbers! The MX1 class was exciting already this season but with this news the racing will be even more competitive!�
Jean Jacques Luisetti: ?For a team manager it?s a dream to have Christophe on his staff, as he is one of the best riders in the world, and I?m glad to see him on one of our bikes. Our MX1 Kawasaki became available since Ben Townley decided to take a break from racing, and it was necessary for us to find another rider to respect our commitments to our sponsors and partners. We contacted Christophe, and when he confirmed to us that he was interested in our project and free of any other contractual obigations we did our best to find a deal. I want to thanks our partners, Monster Energy, Kawasaki, 13 Recyclage, Thor, Suomy, TCX, Distri bike, Ets Nogueira, Rennes Motos and Moto 85, all of whom have helped us to reach this agreement. For sure the strong connection between Team CLS, Kawasaki and Pro Circuit was important as Christophe knows the bike and the team. Christophe wants to show what he is capable of in this class, and of course it is also our goal to prove what the team can do in the MX1 class. This is a nice development as Floride Moto was one of the partners of the Pourcel family in 2006 when Christophe won the MX2 world title, while Armand Lopez, owner of 13 Recyclage, already helped the Pourcel family when they started in motocross. I?d like to thanks Roger Pourcel and his wife for their advice; they helped us to make this dream come true.?
