MarcVDS rider Scott Redding scrapped his way through the Moto2 field to take seventh in today’s race at the Saschsenring, starting from 23rd on the grid after a disappointing qualifying performance yesterday.
The Gloucestershire rider dispensed with the riders in front him very quickly, rising to sixth place with 13 laps to go and lapping as fast as the leaders. He eventually got the better of Simone Corsi and Jules Cluzel to take a decent points score.
Marc Marquez took the victory after a race-long battle with series leader Stefan Bradl and veteran Alex De Angelis with the two Swiss riders Randy Krummenacher and Thomas Luthi in fourth and fifth. Yonny Hernandez finished just ahead of Redding in sixth.
Tech3′s Bradley Smith ran into the gravel at the first turn on lap one as Julian Simon had his own crash at the same time. The Oxfordshire copper top got back on track but then fell again at the Omegakurve and had to pull in.
