When the second qualifying session got underway ahead of Superpole Saturday, Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa again led the World Superbike grid at Brno. The Spaniard posted a 1:59.322, the exact same time he took the top time in Qualifying 1 Friday.
And just as in Q1, the two pilots behind were Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati’s Jakub Smrz and Yamaha Superbike’s Marco Melandri, respectively.
The reigning World Superbike Champion moved up to fourth-fastest ahead of Brno Superpole due to killing three-tenths of a second from his Friday time. Next was Biaggi’s fellow Italian countryman, Suzuki Alstare’s Michel Fabrizio
The final two to post under the 2:00 mark in Saturday’s Q2 were Yamaha Superbike’s Eugene Laverty and Pata Racing Team Aprilia’s Noriyuki Haga.
WSBK reports that both Castrol Honda riders, Ruben Xaus and Alex Lowes, together with Roberto Rolfo (Pedercini Kawasaki), Joan Lascorz and Chris Vermeulen (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Hungarian Viktor Kispataki (Prop-tech ltd. Honda) failed to make it into Superpole.
