Classic bikers to battle for ?King of Brands? honour this weekend

04/07/2011 – The Classic Racing Motorcycle Club (CRMC) will hold a programme of 44 races this weekend (9 & 10 July) at Brands Hatch with over 300 entrants expected to attend.

There will be 39 races for solo machines, including a race to determine the ‘King of Brands,’ which returns this year after a hiatus in 2010, as well as a Charlie Sanby Trophy race.

There will also be daredevil action from sidecars, with four races scheduled, and four classic bike parades will also take place this weekend on the Indy circuit.

The CRMC was founded in 1981 and caters for machines built between 1945 and 1972. Several championships are currently balanced on a knife edge, with ‘Sidecar Period One’ currently headed by Dennis and Christine Etheridge. With David Crawford and David Baxter only 30 points off the lead, the championship could have a different look to it at the end of the weekend.

It’s even closer in the 200cc Two Strokes series, with just a point separating Robin Keating and Terry Brocklehurst.

Andrew Taylor leads the 500cc Group One category, but is followed closely by Graham Williams, and in the Post Classic 125cc Piston Port series, Wayne Hickman and Antony Hart are fighting it out for honours.

Further racing this weekend will come from 350cc machines, Formula 750, and the ACU UK Classic series.

Tickets for the CRMC ‘King of Brands’ meeting at Brands Hatch on 9 & 10 July are available for 13 on the gate with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click the link below.
