Desalle and Ramon head to German Grand Prix

Suzuki’s factory RM-Z450s barely had time to dry from the jet-wash before being packed back into the Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 race-truck and beginning their journey to the Talkessel circuit at Teutschenthal for the Grand Prix of Germany this weekend.

The ninth round of 15 in the FIM Motocross World Championship is forecasted to take place under bright but cloudy skies with the chance of showers Friday and Sunday afternoons. The short drops, climbs and banked corners of the hard-pack Talkessel layout will provide its customary quick challenge to Clement Desalle and Steve Ramon. The two Belgians will be more than familiar with the old venue that has been a concrete fixture on the GP calendar this century.

A sizeable crowd is expected to descend on the small German hamlet in the east of the country and close to the city of Halle thanks to the re-emergence of the nation as a force in World Motocross. For Desalle, the event will be the second of three in a row that he has to try and negotiate in the best way possible in order to reach the small break after Latvia next week still in reach of the red plate. The ‘Panda’ was a decent seventh last weekend in Sweden.

“I feel like I am 95 years old if I am honest! Seriously though I am a bit better but not 100%,” the winner of three Grands Prix this year said with reference to his sore shoulders and painful finger. “I have aches and pains in different places but I was able to go cycling this morning and also have some physio on my shoulder.

“I hope as the days go on then I will feel better and better. Teutschenthal is not one of the best tracks on the calendar but we all have to deal with it,” he added. “Every track is physical but I will have to wait and see how I feel on the bike on Saturday morning to have an idea about how fast I can be. I believe it should feel easier than last weekend.”

Steve Ramon was fifth at Uddevalla last Sunday and is still chasing his first silverware of 2011. “I didn’t have any problems with my leg over the weekend so that was really good and now I’m just at home recovering and doing a bit of training for Germany,” he said. “The weekends are hard work and with three GPs in a row you just have to do your best to get fit and ready for the next one. Teutschenthal is another hard-pack track and my goal is to make better starts in Germany and make life a bit easier for myself in the motos. The podium is closer and I want to make it in the coming races.”
