BMW Motorrad UK has announced (30-6-2011) only 20 of its HP2 boxer-twin sports bikes exist in UK BMW dealers and that any prospective buyers should be quick to snap one up because production of the 15,250 air-cooled weapon has now ceased.
The limited production HP2 first appeared in 2008 and was the first boxer-powered BMW production bike to have the now-standard double overhead cam operation. Find a BMW HP2 Sport for sale. The bike itself closely mirrors the successful 2007 boxer-powered World Endurance machine that was the test bed for the DOHC system.
The HP2 comes with all the attributes of a racing machine to give it the HP (High Performance) tag, starting with a claimed 133bhp output and a wet-weight figure of just 199kg.
The low weight is attributed to exotic materials and lightweight components such as carbon-fibre and Kevlar body panels (including self-supporting single seat unit), race-spec Brembo brakes, forged wheels and BMW developed Ohlins suspension. Even the dash is MotoGP-spec.
BMW?s innovative four-cylinder S1000RR may have stolen the HP2?s road and track-ready thunder, but the HP2 is a magnificent machine in its own right that many MCN staff would love to own.
